The North Texas Healthcare Compliance Professionals Association (NTHCPA) invites members and other interested health care compliance professionals to join us on Tuesday, April 16, 2013 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. for our April Study Group Luncheon featuring HIPPA Privacy Officer Morris Landau JD, MHA, LLM speaking on “Overview of HIPAA/HITECH Act: Omnibus Final Rule.”

Registration & Meeting Details

The meeting scheduled from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on April 16, 2013 at the offices of the Dallas Ft Worth Hospital Council, 250 Decker Drive, Irving, TX 75062-2706 will feature a complimentary luncheon underwritten by Cynthia Marcotte Stamer, P.C. for those who timely R.S.V.P.  Networking and lunch service will begin at 11:30.  Our program will begin at Noon.

There is no charge to participate in the meeting.  However space is limited and available only on a first come, first serve basis.  To ensure your spot and help us to arrange for adequate space and refreshments for this meeting, R.S.V.P.  here as soon as possible and no later than Noon on April 15, 2013.  Walk in guests will be accommodated on a space-available basis only.

About The Speaker

Morris Landau is the new Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) Privacy Officer at UT Southwestern Medical Center. Prior to joining UT Southwestern, Morris was the HIPAA Privacy Officer at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (St. Jude) in Memphis, Tennessee. As the Privacy Officer, he provided leadership and oversight for all privacy and security-related activities at St Jude. He wrote the HIPAA privacy policies and procedures for institution as well as ensured that St. Jude was compliant with all HIPAA regulations and state laws which affected patient privacy. Prior to joining St. Jude, Morris served as a Health Policy Analyst with the United States Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC), Office of Policy and Research, in Washington, D.C. Prior to joining ONC, Morris served as the first HIPAA Privacy Specialist in the United States Department of Health and Human Services, Office For Civil Rights (OCR) in Dallas, Texas, and in New York City, where he specialized in HIPAA enforcement and in writing HIPAA OCR internal policies as well as provided HIPAA technical assistance and outreach to various health care entities.

Morris earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Speech Communication with honors and a Bachelor of Arts in History with honors from the University of Texas at Austin. He earned his Juris Doctorate degree from the University Of Tennessee College Of Law in 1992. In 2000, Morris received his Master in Health Administration from the University of Memphis. In 2001, he received a Master of Laws in Health Law from the University Of Houston Law Center.  Morris has written several articles on diverse health law topics and has given many lectures to a variety of  groups, including government agencies, health care entities, and health care attorneys, and has served as a Master in Health Administration program guest lecturer and instructor.
